KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, May 13, 2020 /PRNewswire/ — Businesses are ready to reopen for the ‘new normal’ in the aftermath of COVID-19 pandemic. The changes will be driven by four pressures includes health, social, regulatory and economy. Webinar forum organised by Malaysian Association of Wellness & Spa (MAWSPA) and hosted by Cosmobeauté Malaysia. Wellness & Spa in The Post COVID-19: The Need Will Remain but The Interface Will Change topic was discussed in a webinar forum held on 7 May 2020 organised by Malaysian Association of Wellness & Spa (MAWSPA) and hosted by Cosmobeauté Malaysia of Informa Markets. The webinar has successfully attracted nearly 300 attendees. Dorothea Justin Moduying, President of Malaysian Association of Wellness & Spa (MAWSPA) said the four pressures are the significant challenges in the Spa & Wellness industry, however, the industry has a powerful force to counteract on these pressures. "What we will have after COVID-19 is probably a stronger and fitter Spa & Wellness industry that uses cutting-edge Spa & Wellness treatments to meet the new expectations of people and communities, while retaining its core of empathy and caring," said Dorothea. "When it comes from the aspect of business owners, employees and investors, one of the most crucial elements to focus is how can we raise public confidence level to what we offer. Proper Standard Operating Procedures must be set up. We must make a widespread announcement of hygiene practices and ensure the news of our initiatives can be widely reach to our clients," said Samantha Tan Pui See, Group Director of Spa of Thai Odyssey Group. Samantha also emphasized that the key is communication. Meanwhile, Andrew Jacka, Chairman of Asia Pacific Spa and Wellness Coalition (APSWC) said there is a surge in technology. Despite the massive use of technology in the industry such as virtual reality, Artificial Intelligence and online consultation in wellness sector, traditional therapies need to be maintained. "We need turn around and look more progressive in focusing on building immunity," he added. On another note, Datin Jeanette Tambakau, President of Association of Malaysian Spas (AMSPA) said, aside from maintaining Health & Safety as top priority; as a national spa organization, want to ensure the industry is minimally impacted economically. "This is the time for reskilling our employees as this is the best opportunity to re-emphasize the importance of safety and hygiene. One of the approaches we can retrain our employees is on Behavior Based Safety Program," she said. Additionally, Alexandra Sutopo, President of Bali Spa and Wellness Association (BSWA) noted that innovation is important at this crucial time, to think more beyond creative ideas. "The market is changing drastically hence we need to look into possibility for tapping into new market. Innovation can be simple such as upscale touch or services that can be added-on when return to the operation. Now is a good time to engage with start-up companies as they like new challenges and more flexible," she added.
